Purple Peak Retreat, Akaroa, New Zealand

This was our first place after leaving Christchurch and we had grand plans for surfing and lots of time spent outdoors. The weather had other plans as we endured what seemed like endless days of rain and cold. The hostel wasn’t really the best place to “hang out” to wait out the weather and we took shelter in the local public library and returned to Christchurch one day to stock up on additional camping gear and groceries. Darren was a really nice guy and we did go kayaking one day, surfing another and managed to squeeze in a few rounds of frisbee golf, when we could figure out the course layout. As the jumping off and landing point for the Banks Peninsula Track it was quite convenient. Ainsley and I spent each night in the tents, saving us some money and testing out my new birthday presents (Thanks Mom!). We stayed dry and warm for the most part.
