India - We’re Here

Day 4 in India and one word says it all - Overwhelming!
I’ll do my best in the near future to explain more about what that word means to us, but Internet access has been scarce and I want to post a brief update for now. Suffice it to say that India is unlike any other place we’ve been.
During our first walk down a street in Delhi all of the kids were truly scared. (It was a lot for Kelli and me too.) The sights, sounds, smells, people, cars, animals, bikes, trucks, smoke, etc. were just overpowering. They grasped our hands tightly and were visibly shaken by the experience. Thankfully, we have all found our footing a bit, but it there is still too much to process as we drive in our little “bubble” of a tourist car through the streets of Northern India.
Everyone does love the food here, even more than in Thailand. That came as a bit of surprise, although we’ve shared so much Indian food with Prasad, Susan and Anna over the years. Well, maybe Eliot doesn’t love it, but he hasn’t loved much food anywhere in Asia. Everyone is healthy outside of Kelli’s lungs that just don’t do well with the air in Asia and my first bout of food borne illness of the trip last night.
For now here are some pictures. First some select pictures of the streets and people of India and second some of us at tourist sites along the way.

You have made it. There is now nowhere you can’t go and nothing you can’t do! You are truly accomplished world travelers! Great job and wonderful pictures!!
wow - great pics. I think Ainsley is growing by the day! Same for Jack and Elliot.
please tell us what the reaction re Obama taking office has been and also about the food, for which I salivate.
here in the states - sandy, maddy, jon wm and i were on the dc mall for the inauguration - tons and tons of people, all feeling the Obama Groove and happy Just to Be There. cold but clear and a lotta fun. we didn’t get anywhere near The Man but stayed with the Great Unwashed Masses in front of a jumbo-tron. When it was all over and the band started playing a Sousa march, Maddy and Her Daddy danced in front of the WWII memorial with other Obamaniacs, celebrating the End of Something Bad and the Start (We Hope) of Something Much, Much Better.
cheers -

Okay, I’m way behind in reading, but what do WGGSH and
WWSHA mean?
Sara and I just come back from seing the highly nominated “slumdog millionaire” movie and thought of you guys (we were, despite quite a bit of Inda ‘expertise’ overwhelmed - yet as always, fascinated by the impressions of Indian life). 3 weeks is NOT enough to get over the initial “overwhelmness” - I’d say it takes a few months.
You likely moved on - to New Zealand, was it? The lack of updates to your log hopefully doesn’t mean you lost your computer or ended up in an Ashram for good. More pics please….
Just finishing uploading some photos and writing the entry. I’ll post soon. We are in fact now in New Zealand feeling like we landed on another planet after 3 weeks in India and our few months in Asia in total.
