Argentina plays Uruguay, Americans watch in awe

If you are going to go to a soccer game in Argentina other than Boca vs. River, this is a good one to go to. We started off by taking the Sub-te or subway to the end of the blue line. Then we followed the sea of people the 10 or so blocks to the River Plate stadium. In the US if you had gone to a professional soccer game you would have to walk through a run down old neighborhood, but here you walk through the high class neighborhood with the brick walls that have electric wiring on the top.
Once we got to the game we had enough trouble finding our seats as well as where we had to go in to get to them. They had a gate for the Uruguay fans and a gate for the Argentina fans. It was totally segregated probably because people get in fights and then the policia get involved and yeah, if you can at all prevent that why not?
The game itself was incredibly exciting. Within the first ten minutes Argentina scored. It was a nasty game with a lot of yellow cards. So many in fact that I was surprised that no person got two. The final score was 2-1 Argentina which was a lot more exciting than the 0-0 in Quito.
If you have ever been to a baseball game in the US you know that the food you eat while you are at the game is almost as good as the game itself. At this game hardly anybody ate a single thing. They were too busy chanting and yelling.
Overall our money was well spent on great seats with an incredible view of the field. On the way home the Sub-te was packed. It was not even funny how many people were there cramming into the cars. everyone slept well after that.

Hi Ainsley, Way fun. Thanks for the video bit. The video along with your description really makes you feel like your ALMOST there. That picture of you and Jack is so funny. You look so serene. . .la la la la la. . . and Jack is on the verge of wild man. Guess I shouldn’t be too surprised!
Isaac and the CFS futbol team have their tournament Wed and Thursday. I’ll let you know how they do. Word has it the MS dance was fun; nothing major to report, however.
hugs and kisses,
minnie
Hey J.J.A.K.E.–What amazing places you’ve been these last few weeks. Wow are the waterfalls & lake beautiful! My favorite photo so far is the one of Kelli & kids dancing in the sunset! xoxoxoxoxo, Robin
MB, the kids loved talking with Isaac last night. He sounds so much older with that deep voice!
H.E.R.B., everyone loved hearing from you. We’ve spared you the photos of the other side of travel life involving bodily functions in emergency situations and those showing fraying nerves. We too really love the dancing one, courtesy of a flat tire on the bus. Funny how some of the best things come in unexpected ways. We couldn’t have planned that one if we tried.
John
im so jealous that you got to see a soccer game!
hay ainsley learn any good moves? haha i hope that you did! looks like it was super awesome to watch!
Hi Ainsley,
Great reporting on the soccer front. I’m not a huge fan (all that yelling gives me a headache!), but Blake and the kids were really jealous.
I think you’re right, if you’re going to go to all the trouble to get to a big game in Argentina, for goodness sake, get the good seats! I think you’re right about the separate entrances, too. If the players - who were being watched closely by refs - got so ugly with their behavior, imagine how the crazy fans would behave!
FYI, I have my own version of the MS Dance, but I should leave the telling to Claire. She said she sent you a couple of e-mails. (Do you read those, or do you only read from your blog?) Anyway, your absence is still felt over at CFS, but your adventure is worth our suffering a bit!
Hugs,
Jenny
Hey Jenny,
Thank you so much for commenting on my post, I really love hearing from you. It’s funny, I haven’t been getting e-mails from Claire and I am checking as often as I can. Are you sure that she has the correct e-mail address. I will try to e-mail her and see what’s up.
The game was awesome and like you said, very loud. I don’t know if you noticed, but in the picture of me with Jack in the background, my mom is also in the background of Jack. See it you can find her.
Thanks again for commenting. I really do enjoy hearing everything that you have to say.
Love,
Ainsley
