I spent Saturday (6:30 AM - 9:00) PM on a safari, or more accurately, on an interminably long van ride across the Nairobi - Mombassa Highway (term used loosely). My colleague and I relied on a Nairobi RTI staff member to arrange a day long safari for us. Unfortunately, while we thought we paid for a high quality safari expedition, we received one operated by a shoestring company operating with poor equipment. The safari van overheated constantly and required water no fewer than 12 times across the 8+ hours that it took to drive round trip to the Amboseli National Park southwest of Nairobi near the Tanzanian border. A flat tire on the way back added to the fun of regular water stops. We did see quite a few animals along the way to help make the trip somewhat worthwhile, although we didn’t get to see Mt Kilimanjaro that was shrouded in clouds the entire day.
Not paradise!

History Rosslyn Academy began as Mara Hills School in northern Tanzania in 1948 as a school for children of Mennonite missionaries. In 1967 the school was moved to its present location in Nairobi, and the name as changed to Rosslyn Academy. The Baptist Mission of Kenya became co-owners and managers in 1976, and the Assemblies of God became the third sponsoring agency in 1988.Today, Rosslyn is a day school that provides an American-based educational curriculum with an enrollment of approximately 500 day-school students. Students experience minimal academic difficulty in transferring, at any grade level, from Rosslyn Academy to schools in North America. Rosslyn Academy is distinctly Christian, yet inter-denominational.
Governance The policy-making body for Rosslyn Academy is the Board of Governors. It consists of two members from each of the sponsoring agencies, one member-at-large recommended by the Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF), and one member selected by the Board from the private sponsor community. The sponsoring mission agencies are: the Baptist Mission of Kenya, Eastern Mennonite Missions, and the Assemblies of God.
Accreditation Rosslyn Academy is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) and by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). The school is also a member of the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA) which provides an opportunity for our students and teachers to participate in athletic and cultural events with other schools that cater to international students in Africa.http://rosslynacademy.org/
